Bridge Work

This week three of our bridges have been worked on. The first bridge was rebuilt and is located behind Amherst Circle.  A pot hole in the asphalt in front of it was patched as well.

Two missing pickets were replaced in the bridge behind Anderson.

And at the bridge behind Babson Way, the wobbly handrails and a warped board were replaced. Just in time for school!

Safety Repairs & Improvements

Recently, the lifeguard chair was repaired by a volunteer board member instead of buying a new one. A small shelf was added for the phone in the clubhouse for the lifeguard and the emergency 911 signs were updated with the clubhouse address.

To solve the problem of puddling (a slip hazard) at one of the pool ladders and badly cracked cement, a section was torn up, a drain installed, and new cement poured. The drain empties out into the grass several feet away.

The asphalt at the bridge behind Bates and Anderson was repaired.

Caution signs were erected at the path entrances across the neighborhood. The signs also indicate that the paths for for Abingdon Village residents only and that dogs must be leashed.

Additionally, the damaged pet waste station trash can at the clubhouse was replaced by the contractor who was responsible.

New Bridge by Bucknell Circle

The old bridge behind the middle of Bucknell Circle had two different kinds of rails, was missing several slats, and showed signs of decay.

A new bridge was recently built to replace it.

Additionally, the recent wind storms also took down a tree nearby, but thankfully, one of our neighbors saw it and cut it up for firewood, saving the Association the cost of having it done. We love volunteers!

Working towards a cleaner and safer neighborhood

If you take a look at the clubhouse area, you will notice that the baby swing has been repaired and that the huge tree stump is being removed this week, weather permitting.

Additionally, the City has placed rock at the culvert at the path behind Auburn and Bennington.

Storm and Path Clean-up

The recent storm felled the pine tree at the clubhouse and took out the crossbeam of the baby swing.  Volunteers were out the next day assessing the damage and the following day, neighbors came out to help clean it up with chainsaws. At our Fall Clean-up on Saturday, much of the debris were further sawed and tossed in the dumpster.

Additionally, Lloyd of LJ’s Lawns had his crew working on the path behind Adelphi, so neighbors can actually walk back there now.  It’s already a huge difference.  The attached map shows where they will be doing extra work in October (yellow zone).  See Clean-Up Zones here.

Volunteers tore out the wooden fence and the old flower bed in front. New landscaping timbers were put in to replace the rotten old ones and new flowers were planted there and also along the front of the clubhouse and in the flower boxes at the pool entrance.

Additionally, the rusty bike rack has been painted and looks very good.

Thanks to the neighbors who helped make it happen!

New bridge behind Bates

New bridge behind Bates

Recently a second bridge was repaired, behind Bates and parallel to Amherst. The bridge between Adelphi and the barn was replaced a few months ago. These repairs are just in time for warm weather walks!

Several repairs have also been made to the clubhouse, and a new fence is currently being erected around the pool in anticipation of the upcoming pool season. Additionally playground equipment has been ordered.

We anticipate our residents will make much more use of the clubhouse area this season!
